Council of Europe standards should be incorporated in all legislative initiatives of judicial reform in Ukraine – participants of the International Conference organized by EU/Council of Europe Joint Project and USAID UROL Project KYIV – An expert conference ''Judicial Reform in Ukraine: Finding Solutions in Line with European Standards” took place on March 12 and 13 in Kyiv. The Council of Europe in the framework of the Joint Programme between the European Union and the Council of Europe Transparency and Efficiency of the Judicial System of Ukraine together with USAID Ukraine Rule of Law Project, in cooperation with the Council of Judges of Ukraine, the Supreme Court of Ukraine, and with participation of the Committees of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and the National Commission on Strengthening Democracy and the Rule of Law supported the expert discussion on judicial reform in Ukraine in line with European and International standards. |

On June 26, 2008, a pilot test for judicial candidates took place in the City of Donetsk as part of an effort to promote transparent and objective judicial selection. The Academy of Judges of Ukraine conducted the test at its Donetsk regional department jointly with High Qualification Commission of Judges of Ukraine, qualification commission of general court judges of Donetsk appellate circuit, and regional department of State Judicial Administration in the Donetsk Oblast. |

As part of an effort to promote a transparent, effective, and understandable judicial disciplinary process that is readily available to all citizens, the USAID Ukraine Rule of Law Project developed and piloted the use of a judicial misconduct petition form in the Kyiv Oblast. |

Courts and Media Committee will be established in Zaporizhzhya Oblast, which will consist of journalists, members of the judiciary and NGOs. Its task will be to support the establishment of a dialog between courts and media, and objectively evaluate the complex situations arising in relations between journalists and judges.
